Two Irish climbers have died in an accident on Mont Blanc in the French Alps.

The bodies of 37-year-old Colm Ennis from County Waterford and 55-year-old Peter Britton from County Tipperary were found at 16:00 BST on Sunday.

French mountain rescue said the men died "instantly" during their descent of Mont Blanc.

It is understood they fell about 200 metres in the Dent du Geant, or Giant's Tooth, area of the mountain.

The Irish state broadcaster RTÉ reported that both men were founding members of the Rathgormack Climbing Club, based in County Waterford's Comeragh Mountains.
