Gardaí (Irish police) searching for two missing Dublin men have found two bodies on an island on Lough Sheelin on the Cavan/Meath border.

Eoin O'Connor, 32, and Anthony Keegan, 33, from Coolock, were last seen in Cavan on 22 April after telling their families they were going to a meeting.

It is understood Gardaí suspected their disappearance was connected to the activities of a Dublin criminal gang.

Police have not yet confirmed the identities of the deceased.

The bodies were discovered at 16:30 BST on Monday following a search on an island.

Gardaí appealed to anyone with information, particularly those from the boating community on Lough Sheelin, or anyone who may have been on the lough between 22 April and 26 May to contact them.

Following the men's disappearance, police carried out a number of searches in the area.

A car belonging to one of the men was discovered near a lake in County Westmeath three days after they were last seen.
