Turkey coal mine explosion: 'There's always hope'

14 May 2014 Last updated at 11:25 BST

There is still "hope" that rescue teams will be able to find survivors after an explosion at a coal mine in western Turkey has left at least 201 workers dead, the Today programme has been told.

Andrew Watson from the Mines Rescue Service explained that a "focus" to the rescue effort can be gained by looking at mine plans.

He said that by barricading themselves into the mine, the trapped have a better chance of surviving.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 14 May.
