More than 50 jobs are to go at the Irish Examiner newspaper group, owned by Landmark Media.

Staff were informed about the job losses at a meeting in the Cork office on Thursday.

It is understood that about half of the jobs will go in Cork and the rest will be from the regional offices.

The group currently employs a total of 560 people.

It is believed those jobs being shed from the Cork office will be voluntary redundancies, while those from the regional office will be mainly compulsory.

Landmark Media Investments took control of the newspapers as part of a restructuring at Thomas Crosbie Holdings in March 2013.
