Police in London have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 37-year-old from the Republic of Ireland.

Michael Hunt, originally from County Waterford, was found seriously injured in an alleyway skip, off Station Road, South Norwood at around 07:00 GMT on Saturday, 15 March.

Mr Hunt was taken to King's College Hospital, where he died later that day.

On Tuesday, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Purley on suspicion of murder.

A post-mortem examination on Mr Hunt, who lived in the Selhurst area of south London, began on Sunday but had yet to conclude.

Police said the victim suffered injuries to his head and body, which were consistent with an assault.

Det Ch Insp Diane Tudway said Mr Hunt was well known in the local community and asked anyone with information to come forward.

She added: "The information available to us at this stage leads us to believe that Mr Hunt was not the victim of a stranger or a random attack. However, our inquiries continue."
