Ennis collision: Woman killed by reversing car

A 74-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a reversing car in County Clare.

It happened in Francis Street in Ennis at about 13:30 GMT.

The Irish state broadcaster, RTÉ, said the woman was placing her shopping into the back of her car when the vehicle reversed and knocked her down.

It said the woman's grandson was in the car at the time and a second child was standing near the car. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí (Irish police) are carrying out a forensic examination and have appealed for witnesses.
