Inside a German 'mega brothel'

21 February 2014 Last updated at 01:27 GMT

Germany legalised prostitution in 2002, creating an industry now thought to be worth 16bn euros (£13bn) a year.

By treating prostitution as a job like any other, the idea was to prise women away from the pimps that often run the sex trade.

But critics of Germany's liberal approach argue it is an experiment that has spectacularly failed, normalising prostitution and turning the country into the "bordello of Europe".

Newsnight's Jim Reed was shown around Paradise Stuttgart, one of Europe's largest legal brothels.

You can watch Jim's film in full on the BBC iPlayer.
