Ukraine protests move east

29 January 2014 Last updated at 10:41 GMT

The Ukrainian parliament is due to debate a possible amnesty for scores of protesters arrested in anti-government demonstrations.

President Viktor Yanukovych said the amnesty would be conditional on protesters leaving official buildings and taking down barricades.

Protests have snowballed into a wider national movement, spreading into the heartland in the mostly Russian-speaking east.

Gabriel Gatehouse reports.
