The former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard is confident that Michael Schumacher will recover from injuries sustained in a skiing accident.

Doctors treating Mr Schumacher say he is "fighting for his life" in hospital in Grenoble.

The seven-time Formula 1 champion was skiing off-piste with his son in the French Alps on Sunday morning when the accident occurred.

Coulthard told BBC Radio 5 live's Chris Warburton: "He was very quickly taken to the best hospitals available, and physically he's in exceptional shape.... All the cards are stacked in his favour."
