Public prosecutor Muammar Akkas sacked in scandal-hit Turkey

A public prosecutor in Turkey who spoke out about alleged police obstruction in a major corruption case has been dismissed.

The Turkish lira hit a historic low against the US dollar after Muammar Akkas was removed for what Istanbul's chief prosecutor describes as mishandling procedures.
