Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta calls confidence vote

Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta says he will call a vote of confidence in parliament on Wednesday in an attempt to avoid fresh elections, following the collapse of his governing coalition.

Relations between Mr Letta's centre-left grouping and ex-PM Silvio Berlusconi's party have reached rock bottom.
