Man drowns at lake in County Tipperary

A 65-year-old man has drowned in County Tipperary.

The man had gone swimming in a lake at a slate quarry near Ahenny on Saturday afternoon.

A police sub-aqua unit searched for him when he did not return home and his body was recovered on Sunday.

It follows the deaths of two men who drowned in separate incidents in County Donegal and County Kerry on Saturday and Friday.

A 24-year-old man got into difficulty while swimming in the sea near Ardara, County Donegal, on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the area shortly before 14:00 BST.

The man was airlifted to Letterkenny General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

In a separate incident, a 19-year-old man drowned in County Kerry on Friday.

His body was recovered from Lough Leane in Killarney.
