26 June 2013 Last updated at 22:50 BST

Fugitive US whistleblower Edward Snowden is still in the transit area at a Moscow airport, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The 30-year-old IT expert is wanted by the US for revealing to the media details of a secret government surveillance programme, which he obtained while working as a contractor for the National Security Agency (NSA).

Mr Snowden first fled to Hong Kong before flying to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on Sunday.

He was expected to board a flight to the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Monday but his seat remained vacant.

Gordon Corera reports on the mystery surrounding Edward Snowden's whereabouts.
