Richard the Lionheart's mummified heart analysed
French scientists have revealed the results of a nine-month study on the heart of Richard I, or as he is better known Richard the Lionheart.
The relic rediscovered beneath the choir in Rouen cathedral in the 19th Century has been analysed using the very latest forensic techniques.
The study has confirmed that he died in April 1199.
It has ruled out any conspiracy theories he was poisoned and it tells us that in death Richard, the crusader, had deep concerns for his soul.
Christian Fraser reports from Paris.
