Vatican briefing after Pope resigns

The Vatican's chief spokesman, Rev Federico Lombardi, is holding a news conference following Monday's shock announcement that Pope Benedict XVI will resign.

The pontiff, 85, is standing down after nearly eight years as the head of the Catholic Church because he believes he is too old to continue.
