The schools where whistling in class is compulsory

Help

Whistling is a compulsory subject at schools in the Canary Island of La Gomera.

It is part of an effort by locals to keep silbo gomero - the ancient whistling language used to communicate through the deep ravines and valleys - alive in the modern age.

BBC Mundo's Laura Plitt reports.
