Man dies after County Kildare shooting

A 33-year-old man has died after he was shot in County Kildare in the Republic of Ireland.

The shooting took place at a house in Kilmeage, Naas, before 06:00 GMT on Saturday.

The man was taken to Naas General Hospital with serious gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A second man was also taken to hospital after the shooting but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Irish police have sealed off the house in Kilmeage and notified the state pathologist.

Detectives have recovered a legally held shotgun but no arrests have been made.

The Irish state broadcaster, RTE, reported that police have spoken to the people who were in the house and are "not looking for anyone else at this time".

It said gardai had not ruled out the possibility that the shooting may have been accidental.
