Fire claims lives of three family members in Ireland

Three members of the same family have died in a house fire in County Leitrim in the Republic of Ireland.

Desmond McDonald, 75, his wife Patsy, 77, and their daughter Patricia, 34, died in the fire at their home in Lisnabrack early on Satruday morning.

It is understood that someone driving past the house saw the fire and called the emergency services at 02:20 GMT.

They found the bodies of the family in a search of the two-storey house.

Irish state broadcaster RTE said it was thought that the fire may have started in the kitchen and that the family were asleep at the time.

Police have said they do not believe there is anything suspicious about the deaths.

The bodies have been taken to Sligo General Hospital where post mortem examinations will be carried out.
