Chechnya's rise from the ashes
Chechnya has undergone nearly 10 years of dramatic transformation but the man who has overseen its revival is highly controversial.
Human rights groups accuse Ramzan Kadyrov of persecuting critics and committing abuses in his fight against insurgents.
While rebuilding Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, himself a former Chechan rebel, is also promoting what he calls "traditional Islam".
Steve Rosenberg spoke to Kadyrov exclusively.
