Spain have won the Euro 2012 football championship, much to the delight of thousands of supporters who had gathered in central Madrid to watch the game.

But the 4-0 win for Spain left Italian supporters who had gathered in Rome's central Circus Maximus dejected.

The result meant Spain claimed a successive European crown to add to their 2010 World Cup triumph.

The BBC's Tom Burridge reported on the celebrations in Madrid.
