Pragmatic versus traditional Islam in Tatarstan
The Republic of Tatarstan is one of the the biggest Muslim regions in the Russian Federation.
It promotes a more progressive form of Islam, such as allowing mixed dancing at weddings and Muslim fashion shows which men as well as women can attend.
Although Tatarstan wants to be seen as a bridge between the Muslim world and a more secular Europe, there are some young more radical-minded Tatars who see pragmatic Islamism as verging on the blasphemous.
BBC Uzbek's Rustam Qobil reports.
