Dominique de Villepin to run for French president

Help

The former prime minister of France, Dominique de Villepin, has declared he will stand in next year's presidential elections.

He will stand against his long-time rival, conservative incumbent President Sarkozy, and the Socialist opposition's Francois Hollande.

But polls suggest Mr de Villepin may only get 1 or 2% of the vote, as many of his former friends and allies now support Mr Sarkozy.

Russell Trott reports.
