A former player for the Russian ice hockey team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl has paid tribute to his friends and former team-mates who were killed in a plane crash on Tuesday.

"You spend so much time with the team that they become your family," said US ice hockey player Brett Hauer, who played for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in 2006-2007.

Speaking to BBC World Service, Mr Hauer spoke of his shock on hearing the news, and about the "very special time" he spent playing in Russia.
