Lights and fireworks to celebrate Moscow's birthday

Help

More than 100,000 spectators attended a music, light and fireworks event to mark the 864th anniversary of Moscow.

This year's show featured the largest ever video projection, covering a surface area of 25,500 sq m on the main building of Moscow State University.

World famous urban free climber Alain Robert - known for scaling the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building - climbed up the 240m high university building.

The show was masterminded by David Atkins, director of the opening ceremony for both the Sydney Olympics Games in 2000 and the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

At the end of the show, 5,000 fireworks pushed the festival to its peak.
