Should future generations in Tasmania face a tobacco ban?

Help

The government of Tasmania is considering a ban on the sale of tobacco to anyone born after the year 2000.

The proposal was passed unanimously by the upper house on Wednesday.

There will have to be reviews before a possible vote in the lower house, but if it becomes law younger generations of Tasmanians would never be able to buy cigarettes.

5 liveUp All Night asked Ivan Dean, the politician who put the motion before the Upper House, if he thought it would lead to a prohibition-style ban.
