Japan quake: Images of then and now

The massive earthquake and tsunami that struck off the coast of Japan on 11 March caused widespread devastation.

Thousands of people were killed and injured after the tremor triggered a tsunami that swept through coastal cities, towns and villages in the north-east of the country.

Six months on, the Japanese people are making progress in repairing the damage to their country and their lives. Scroll through the images below to see how some of the worst affected areas in Miyagi prefecture looked at the time of the quake and how they have recovered.
