Baby Tasmanian devils face the public for first time

Five baby Tasmanian devils have faced the public at Australia Zoo in Queensland.

The babies are five months old, but have only just emerged from their mother's pouch.

Tammy Forge, head of Australia Zoo's explained why the new arrivals were so important: "We're looking at 10 to 15 years these guys could be absolutely extinct from the wild altogether, so the captive population all around Australia is a huge boost."

Tasmanian devils are being wiped out by the fatal Devil Facial Tumour disease, which causes large lumps on their faces and makes it difficult for them to eat.
