Why are the Australian floods so severe?
Up to 40,000 homes in Brisbane could be flooded as the water continues to rise in Australia's third largest city.
The floods are not expected to peak in the city until Thursday.
The heavy rains that led to these floods began falling in November and swelling rivers in Queensland.
David Shukman has been looking at why these floods are proving to be so devastating.
