At least 26 people have been killed when a speeding van crashed into a stationary bus on a highway linking the western Indian cities of Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra state, reports say.

Another 27 people were injured in the incident which happened in the Khalatpur area early on Monday.

The victims, including four children, were returning from a wedding.

India has the world's highest road toll, with more than 110,000 people killed every year in accidents.
