China shuts down Beijing Film Festival

24 August 2014 Last updated at 04:18 BST

Chinese authorities have shut down the 11th Beijing Independent Film Festival on its opening day.

Organisers said they had been under pressure from officials in recent days to cancel the festival.

The event is a rare opportunity for independent Chinese film makers to show their work but it is regarded with suspicion by the government.

Tim Allman reports.
