The fierce competition for Chinese university places
In China, over nine million students compete for fewer than seven million university places.
Many push themselves to the limit, or indeed are pushed by their parents, as they take the notorious Gaokao exams.
Police road blocks are set up around schools and nearby construction sites are ordered to fall silent as the country is plunged into two days of 'Gaokao fever'.
