19 June 2014 Last updated at 01:55 BST

Sri Lanka's Muslims have asked the UN to intervene after homes and businesses in the south were destroyed during some of the worst religious violence in the country's history.

The riots claimed at least four lives and were mainly carried out by gangs of Sinhalese Buddhists.

Charles Haviland reports from Beruwala.
