Malaysia plane MH370 black box signals 'rapidly fading'

12 April 2014 Last updated at 10:48 BST

The Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott says he is confident that signals detected in the Indian Ocean in the past week were from the black box of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

However, he told a news briefing in Beijing that the signals from the transmitter were "rapidly fading" and the search area needed to be narrowed as soon as possible.

The battery life of a black box usually lasts for only a month.
