22 January 2014 Last updated at 00:05 GMT

The Australian ice breaker Aurora Australis, which rescued passengers and crew from a research ship stranded in Antarctica on Christmas Eve, has arrived in Tasmania.

Investigations will soon begin to establish why their Russian expedition ship, the MV Akademik Shokalskiy, became trapped in thick and extensive pack ice for 10 days.

The BBC's Phil Mercer reports from Hobart.
