Hundreds of CCTVs installed in Tajik capital Dushanbe

Tajikistan, the poorest country in Central Asia, is installing CCTV cameras in its capital Dushanbe.

The city's traffic controllers say the aim of the $22m (£13.4m; 16.1m euro) project is to make the streets safer for pedestrians and drivers.

But some activists claim the cameras are being used to monitor people opposed to the government of President Emomali Rakhmon, who has won every presidential election in Tajikistan since 1994.
