Karzai calls Afghan Loya Jirga to discuss US security pact

22 November 2013 Last updated at 00:57 GMT

President Karzai, has said he wants to ensure that people in Afghanistan have a say in relations with the US after the departure of combat troops.

He has called a Loya Jirga, the grand assembly of several thousand Afghan council elders, to discuss a security pact with the US.

The deal would mean around 15,000 American troops stay in Afghanistan beyond 2014.

President Karzai says he does not trust the Americans, but he is urging delegates to accept the deal.

Karen Allen reports from Kabul.
