Apec summit: Kerry defends US politics

US Secretary of State John Kerry has defended the American political system following a partial government shutdown at a meeting for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec).

He said the dispute with the Republicans in the US Congress was "an example of the robustness of our democracy".

President Barack Obama cancelled his Asia trip but Mr Kerry insisted the US commitment to Asia remains undiminished.
