Azerbaijan: Displaced and trapped by 20-year-old conflict

When the former Soviet Union collapsed at the beginning of the 1990s, Azerbaijan and neighbouring Armenia went to war over disputed territory.

Thirty thousand people were killed and a million fled their homes before a tenuous ceasefire was agreed.

Nearly two decades on, the two countries are still trapped in the conflict. About 30 people are being killed every year and fears are growing of a return to full-blown war.
