15 December 2013 Last updated at 11:39 GMT

Helicopters flying the South African flag, Air Force fighters trailing white smoke and training planes have taken part in a flypast as Nelson Mandela was laid to rest.

The flypast took place towards the conclusion of the private graveside ceremony at the former president's ancestral home.

David Dimbleby describes the scene.
