African Express breathes new life into Mali's music

14 October 2013 Last updated at 15:22 BST

A group of international stars - the Africa Express - has been holding a series of events in the Mali capital, Bamako, to revitalise its famous music scene, which was hit hard by months of Islamist rule in the north of the country.

They banned all performance of non-religious music but were ousted earlier this year.

As the BBC's Helene Daouphars reports from Bamako, the Africa Express has been looking for local artists to feature on a new album.
