African Express breathes new life into Mali's music

14 October 2013 Last updated at 15:22 BST

They banned all performance of non-religious music but were ousted earlier this year.

As the BBC's Helene Daouphars reports from Bamako, the Africa Express has been looking for local artists to feature on a new album.
