Nairobi shopping centre stand-off continues

23 September 2013 Last updated at 14:12 BST

Heavy gunfire and explosions have rocked the shopping mall near Nairobi as security forces confirm an operation is under way to end the stand-off between Kenyan security forces and Somali militants.

The Foreign Office has confirmed that four Britons were among more than 60 people who are known to have been killed since the attack began on Saturday.

It is thought there are still hostages in the mall, although many are now reported to have been freed.

Karen Allen reports from Nairobi.
