A Labour MP who represents one of Britain's most diverse constituencies suggests poverty and a desire to belong means young men are being "seduced" by extremism.
Tottenham MP David Lammy told the BBC World Service's Focus on Africa programme that "workless poor" men of all races in London and other major Western cities turn to militant Islamic groups, gangs or "far-right" factions in an attempt to "fill a void".
His comments follow the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich, south-east London.
The soldier's death has prompted fears of tensions between different communities.
