Help

France's campaign in Mali will take a "very long time", according to the BBC's Mark Doyle in Bamako.

He said the Malian army was "not very well organised at all" and that there were thousands of armed Islamists in the north.

France has said its hopes its operation will "last a matter of weeks"

France's military has been in action against Islamist militants in Mali since Friday, helping government forces recapture the central town of Konna.
