The Lagos state government has backed the Monopoly project
The first African city edition of the famous board game Monopoly was launched in Lagos this week.
The board's layout, which had been kept secret until the launch, was unveiled with the manmade Banana Island named as the Nigerian city's upmarket equivalent of Mayfair in the London edition.
Makoko, the slum on stilts over the city's lagoon, was the cheapest property for sale on the Lagos board.
If a Monopoly game was produced for other African cities, what do you think the Mayfair and Old Kent Road squares should be?
For Maputo in Mozambique the upmarket areas could be Sommerschield or Avenida Julius Nyerere and Zimpeto and Choupal for the cheapest housing. With Hotels such as the Avenida and Polana.
In Rwanda I think Nyarutarama would be the Mayfair. The place has very massive houses that are bigger than some hotels! Almost all the ambassadors reside here as well.
Khartoum: Kafouri is Mayfair, Riyad is Park Lane, Amarat is Regent Street. Mayo is Old Kent Road
In Kenya, Mayfair would be Westlands. Cheapest property slot, Kibera.
In Abuja, the high-end area would be either Asokoro or Maitama, while the cheapest property would be found maybe in Kubwa or one of other developing suburban districts.
Harare: Mayfair would be Borrowdale Brook, Old Kent Road would be Mbare. Nairobi: Mayfair would be Runda Estate, Old Kent Road would be Kibera. Jo'burg: Mayfair is Sandton and Old Kent Road Hillbrough or Alexandra, take your pick
In Luanda, Mayfair is Miramar; Park Lane is Alvalade.
In Gaborone, Botswana, Phakalane Golf Estates would be Mayfair, while Old Naledi would be an equivalence of Old Kent Road
