South Africa mine inquiry resumes

In South Africa, the inquiry into the deaths of 44 people, including 34 striking miners shot by police, at the Lonmin-owned Marikana platinum mine has resumed.

Proceedings were adjourned earlier this month, after lawyers said they had been able to speak to only a few of the families of the victims.

As well as examining the police shooting, the three-member panel will consider the deaths of 10 others, including two policemen, during weeks of unrest at the mine.
