South African officials are holding a news conference into the deaths of 34 miners shot dead by police while protesting about pay.

It comes as local courts are to begin releasing 270 striking miners who were subsequently charged with their murders.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Marikana tragedy is briefing foreign journalists in Johannesburg.
