Unesco declares Timbuktu an endangered heritage site


The UN's cultural agency Unesco has declared the city an endangered World Heritage site amid concerns that the Islamist forces in control here could damage the ancient shrines in this city.

These al-Qaeda linked forces believe such places to be idolatrous and some of these monuments have reportedly already been destroyed.
