Mubarak trial: Egypt's ex-president jailed for life

Help

Egypt's ex-President Hosni Mubarak has been jailed for life over the killing of demonstrators last year.

The 84-year-old remained silent as the verdict was read, but fighting immediately broke out between his supporters and protesters inside and outside the court.

Huge crowds gathered in Cairo's Tahrir Square to protest against the verdicts, and protests were also held in Egypt's second city Alexandria, Suez and Mansoura.

Rupert Wingfield Hayes reports.
