South Africans' take on Shakespeare's poetry of love
A South African theatrical company is opening a marathon of Shakespearean drama at London's Globe theatre by performing a story of the doomed love in Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana, Afrikaans and South African English.
There will be performances of all William Shakespeare's plays in 38 different languages as part of the festivities surrounding the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Isango Ensemble, famous for transposing classical operas and Shakespearean plays into South African settings, has chosen to stage the poem Venus and Adonis - the tale of the tragic love affair between a goddess and a mortal.
The BBC Africa's Mohammed Allie dropped in on a rehearsal of Venus and Adonis in Cape Town to find out about its significance to South Africans.
