Cesaria Evora, the voice that put Cape Verde on the map

Cape Verde is mourning the death of its legendary singer Cesaria Evora who passed away, aged 70, on Saturday.

The "Barefoot Diva" - as she was known for performing without shoes - began her recording career in 1988, and won a Grammy award in 2004 for her album Voz D'Amor.

Her funeral is scheduled for Tuesday in her native island of Sao Vicente.
